An Inside Look at Reston’s New JW Marriott
The newly minted JW Marriott at Reston Station emerges as a premier destination, blending comfort, design and amenities to redefine the weekend getaway.
With JW Marriott Reston Station’s (marriott.com/wasrj) debut, Northern Virginia gains its first authentic taste of the brand’s elevated blend of sophistication, serenity and world-class hospitality. Anchored within Reston Station—a dynamic mixed-use development—the property establishes a new benchmark for luxury, offering 247 guest rooms and suites, three distinct dining experiences, expansive wellness amenities, and more than 40,000 square feet of flexible event space. It’s the largest luxury hotel in the area, and its arrival signals a new era for Reston as a destination.
Architecture and interiors play a starring role here. Designed by Nunzio Marc DeSantis Architects (@nmdarchitects) with interiors by Michael Graves Architecture (@michaelgravesarchitecture), the property draws inspiration from Reston’s visionary founder, Bob E. Simon, and his Seven Principles, rooted in the Garden City movement.
Floor-to-ceiling windows flood interiors with natural light, while marble, hardwood and other organic materials lend warmth and refinement. Panoramic views of Reston and beyond connect the indoors seamlessly to the natural landscape, embodying the ideals of balance, community and restorative beauty.
Art is woven into the fabric of the hotel, beginning with Lorenzo Quinn’s (@lorenzoquinnartist) monumental outdoor sculpture Building Bridges—six pairs of interlocking hands representing friendship, love, wisdom, help, faith and hope. Inside, playful works by Paris-based studio Le Duo bring color and cultural verve to guest rooms and public spaces. The installation of Virginia’s official “LOVEworks” sculpture underscores the brand’s belief that creativity and community are part of the guest experience.
Three culinary concepts showcase JW Marriott’s dedication to craft. The Simon, helmed by executive chef Anthony DiGregorio, elevates Mid-Atlantic ingredients with Mediterranean and French techniques (don’t miss the Josper-grilled fish filleted tableside or golden chicken stuffed with brioche).
Schar Bar, a refined lounge, offers a cocktail program highlighting Italian amaro, rare bourbons, and an inventive chocolate-and-spirits pairing menu, all while displaying philanthropist Dwight Schar’s private arrowhead collection. For a more casual indulgence, JW Market, led by pastry chef Claus Olsen, tempts with artisanal breads, pastries, sandwiches and even a Chocolate Room where guests can watch chocolatiers at work.
Rest and restoration are central to the JW Marriott philosophy, and Reston Station is the first property worldwide to debut Mindful Rooms. These sanctuary-like accommodations feature curated wellness amenity bags, chef-selected teas, spa products, jade rollers, yoga mats and space designed for meditation and stretching. Dedicated mindful floors enhance the experience with seamless access to the fitness center and outdoor meditation areas. Beyond the rooms, guests discover the JW Garden, where herbs and produce are harvested for the kitchen, a serene wood-paneled fitness center, outdoor terrace and lobby-level havens designed for pause and reflection. It’s a reminder that the art of the weekend getaway is as simple as committing to it in the first place.
